Every vehicle three years or older is required by law to have an annual safety check, known as the Ministry of Transport (MOT) test. Vehicles that pass the MOT test meet the safety requirements required by law and will be issued a certificate.
It is unlawful to drive your vehicle on the roads so you must apply for your MOT test when you receive your reminder notice. Not having an up to date MOT test certificate may result in you receiving a fine, and may void your insurance.
To book a vehicle MOT test online you will need:
- the vehicle registration number
- the last four digits of the chassis number
- a debit or credit card, if using an online or telephone service
